Sagamore has high standards when it comes to commercial drivers. All applicants must meet very stringent minimum standards for their driving records, and pass all background checks. Each prospective mixer driver must successfully complete a Post Offer Job Function Analysis as well as a DOT physical and drug test.
Once a mixer driver is hired, he or she is put through a rigorous four-week training period. This training consists of one week in the classroom learning such things as DOT requirements, OSHA required training, the Sagamore Safety Program, Personal Protective Equipment, drug and alcohol training, the ABC’s of concrete, concrete slump testing, jobsite conditions, potential delivery issues, customer relations, and Sagamore required paperwork including pre & post trip inspections, delivery tickets, and jobsite documentation.
The new hire next completes three weeks of on the job training in the truck. This training consists of three weeks with three different driver trainers at three different batch plants, in an attempt to expose the trainee to as many different scenarios as possible.
After completion of the training program the trainee’s performance is evaluated every 90 days for 1 year.
